Dear Servet ,
I Just wanted to let you know pleaned the Martin Marietta Tmuas tean wan with the services provided by Mehmet Basar ,the driver assigned to our operation .He was with us from early October through 19 December 1993 and worked every day for the last six weeks, often 12 hours a day without a break.Needlesia to say we observed Mehmet under difficult and tiring conditions.
Without expection ,Mehmet performed everything we asked of him,and often more.As you are aware we originally expected just a driver for our group ,but we soon realised that Mehmet had other skills that would prove invaluable to our operation while making our stay in Turkey more anjoyable.
Because of his excellent command of english ,Mehmet quickly became a valuable anset as an interprater during our dealings with the Turkish Land Forces FNSS ,and other Turkish organizations as well as local sorchants. On many occasions ,he was the key to getting a job done and without his translation support ,our interface with the turkish sector would have been such more difficult him skills at bargaining with the local nerchants on our behalf was also appreclated and must be recognized.
On the few free days available to the team Mehmet had the chance to display another of his talents – that of tour guide.A licensed and onthuslastic guide Mhmet had the opportunity on several occasions to show us many of the interesting features located in and near Ankara. It was very evident that he took great pride in sharing his knowladge of Turkish history and culture with our team and was truly interested in making each tour an enjoyable and nerorable experience
His driving skills should also be montioned. Besides routine driving tasks in and around Ankara.Mehmet was also required to drive our nine man team to the Ackir artillery range near Polatli and to return Ankara each evening .These trips were nade daily for a three week period nostly in hazardous weather conditions.
Despite snow ,rain ,darkness and Icy roads ,Mehmet always drove wih our safety and comfort mind. And upon our arrivel back in Ankara each evening he again demonstrated his driving ability by safely dealing with the demands of the rush hour traffic.
Mehmet is an intelligent ,motivated likable young man who was real asset to our operations. We look forward to returning to Ankara in 1994 to continue our integration work and hope that he will be available to once again join our TMUAS team.
